Protection requirements

The NetEngine40E series full-service router (hereinafter referred to as NE40E) is a high-end network product launched by Huawei, mainly used in the core nodes of enterprise WANs, access nodes of large enterprises, campus interconnection & aggregation nodes, and the edges of various other large IDC networks, and is used in conjunction with the NE5000E Backbone Router and NE20E Aggregation Router to form a structurally complete and clearly defined IP network solution. The network is organized with NE5000E backbone router and NE20E convergence router to form a complete structure and clear IP network solution.
The NE40E adopts Huawei's self-developed Solar series NP chipset, and is based on the CLOS distributed multilevel switching architecture, adopting distributed hardware forwarding and non-blocking switching technology, with good wire-speed forwarding performance, excellent scalability, perfect QoS mechanism, and powerful service processing capability. Compatible with the existing network line card, maximizing the protection of customer investment.NE40E has a powerful aggregation access capability, with rich feature support, can be flexibly deployed L2VPN, L3VPN, multicast, multicast VPN, MPLS TE, QoS, etc., to achieve the reliable bearing of user services; support for a wealth of value-added business features, such as GRE tunneling, IPSec secure tunneling, NetStream, etc. Meanwhile, NE40E fully supports IPv6, which can realize the smooth transition from IPv4 to IPv6. Therefore, NE40E can be flexibly applied in the edge and core of IP/MPLS network, which can simplify the network structure, provide rich service types and reliable service quality, and is an important source of power for the development of IP/MPLS bearer network to broadband, security, service and intelligence.

Leading 2T platform
NE40E series energy-saving and emission reduction frames are based on the 2T platform, which can be smoothly expanded to a maximum of 2Tbps bandwidth per slot, realizing high-capacity service bearing and meeting the future bandwidth growth demand. Meanwhile, NE40E series is based on the existing VRP software platform, compatible with the existing network line card, fully utilizing the old, maximizing the protection of customer investment. The whole machine adopts high-density ports and compact design, which can effectively save space.
Innovative IP Hard Pipe Technology
IP hard pipe technology is another major innovation of Huawei in the IP field. On the basis of the existing network, it utilizes MPLS-TE, HQoS, and other technologies, and realizes bandwidth dedication for leased-line services by reserving hardware resources, while ensuring low-latency and high-reliability services.
NE40E supports innovative IP hard pipe technology to provide enterprises with high-quality IP leased line solutions. Hard and soft pipes are strictly isolated by hardware to ensure that the bandwidth of hard pipes is not seized, realizing rigid pipes similar to SDH. Meanwhile, it adopts IP FPM technology to realize stream-level service quality awareness, and provides graphical display through network management and uTraffic for real-time monitoring of service operation, realizing controllable, manageable and visible IP leased line services.
Commercializable SDN Capability
Designed on the basis of innovative SDN architecture, NE40E is able to solve the problems that cannot be completely resolved by traditional networks, such as uneven network traffic loading, low bandwidth utilization, and network topology double-calculation that affects the network convergence efficiency in case of failure. The Atomic Router solution based on SDN architecture supports OAM technologies such as RFC2544, IP FPM, TWAMP, and Y.1731 to realize real-time measurement of service quality and rapid fault location. The Atomic Router is the industry's smallest-volume router innovated by Huawei based on its self-developed chip, with a power consumption of only 1.5W, plug-and-play, and can be deployed in any network location node and on any manufacturer's network equipment.
Comprehensive Virtualization Features
NE40E supports a variety of virtualization features, including:
Multi-virtualization virtual cluster, which virtualizes multiple routers into one logical router, reducing the number of network elements, which can effectively reduce network operation and maintenance costs.
Multi-virtual virtual router, virtualizing one router into multiple logical routers, with resource isolation between each logical router to ensure reliable service occupied resources.
Vertical access satellite cluster, the access equipment of WAN interconnection is regarded as a single board of NE router for management, and the whole network becomes a single device, simplifying operation and maintenance.
Green Design Concept
NE40E adopts self-developed Solar chip design, which is reliable and secure. It supports dynamic allocation and management of multi-core NP resources, and automatically shuts down redundant or unused ports, buses, chips, and other resources, and combines with dynamic frequency tuning and fan intelligent speed control technology to greatly reduce the power consumption of the device, with <1W per G, which is leading in the industry.
Powerful Service Support Capability
NE40E has powerful service bearing capability, according to the network requirements can be deployed simultaneously L2VPN, L3VPN, MVPN, support and TE (Traffic Engineering) deployment at the same time, support for a wealth of access types (ATM, IMA E1, TDM, POS, Ethernet), support for flexible QinQ, support for DHCP/IPoE, can also provide IHCP/IPoE, and can also be used to provide IEEE, IPoE, and IEEE, and can be used to provide IEEE, IPoE, and IEEE. IPoE, can also provide IPSec, GRE and other functions, support Bras broadband service access, support 1588V2 features, to meet the multi-service convergence of rich bearer requirements. NE40E has powerful scalable multicast capability, supports rich IPv4/IPv6 multicast protocols, including PIM-SM/DM/SSM, MLDv1/v2, IGMPv3, multicast CAC (Call Admission Control), IGMP Snooping and other features, and can flexibly carry IPTV and other video services. It can meet the needs of multicast services of various scales.
NE40E supports a variety of value-added service features, such as GRE tunneling, IPSec secure tunneling, NetStream features, and mVPN features, to meet the unique needs of customer networks, and further enhance the utilization value of customer networks.
Rich IPv6 Transition Technology
NE40E supports rich IPv6 features, including IPv6 leased line access, dual-stack, tunneling, and translation. NE40E supports next-hop separation technology to optimize IPv6 route convergence time, and provides large-capacity IPv6 FIB and CGN boards with up to 160G forwarding performance to enhance network scalability. The NE40E provides a complete IPv4-IPv6 solution to meet the needs of IPv6 transition in the various evolution scenarios mentioned above.
Comprehensive Reliability Solutions
NE40E provides reliability protection at multiple levels, including device-level, network-level, and service-level reliability, forming a solution for the entire network, which fully meets the reliability needs of enterprises for various services, and 99.999% system availability is the cornerstone for building reliable interconnection of enterprise services.
- Equipment-level reliability: NE40E provides redundant backup of key components. The NE40E provides redundant backups for key components, supports hot-swapping and hot backups for key components, and NSR (Non-Stop Routing), NSF (Non-Stop Forwarding) and ISSU technologies to ensure non-disruptive service operation. 200ms packet cache is supported by the NE40E, which ensures high quality of service experience for users by not dropping packets during bursty traffic.
- Network Level Reliability: NE40E provides IP/LDP/VPN/TE Fast Rerouting/Hot-Standby, IGP, BGP and multicast route fast convergence, VRRP (Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol), RRPP (Rapid Ring Protection Protocol), TRUNK, and other technologies to ensure interrupted service operation. Ring Protection Protocol (RRPP), TRUNK link sharing backup, hardware BFD link 3.3ms fast detection, MPLS/Ethernet OAM, routing protocols/ports/VLAN Damping and other technologies, to ensure the stability of the entire network, can provide end-to-end protection of 200ms inverted, no interruption of business.
- Service-level reliability: NE40E provides VPN FRR and E-VRRP technology, VLL FRR and Ethernet OAM technology, as well as PW Redundancy and E-Trunk or E-APS technology, which can be applied to L3VPN and L2VPN networking solutions to ensure redundancy and backup at the service level, so as to make the service stable, reliable and uninterrupted.
Perfect QoS mechanism
NE40E provides high-quality QoS (Quality of Service) capability, advanced queue scheduling algorithms, congestion control algorithms, which can realize multi-level accurate scheduling of data flow, so as to meet the quality of service requirements of different users and different service levels.
NE40E products are equipped with perfect QoS scheduling mechanism: it supports H-QoS five-level scheduling mechanism for the access side, which can diversify and differentiate to meet the service requirements of different users at different levels on the access side; it supports MPLS H-QoS function for the network side, and supports deploying QoS function on the network side, which realizes the QoS capability of MPLS VPN, VLL and PWE3; it supports MPLS DS-TE based on TE, which can meet the service quality requirements of different users and different service levels. It supports MPLS DS-TE based on TE, realizes the combination of MPLS TE and DiffServ model, supports 8CT (Class Type), and supports two kinds of bandwidth constraint models: MAM (Maximum Allocation Model) and RDM (Russian Dolls Model), which effectively ensures the QoS demand of network bearer.
Based on the perfect QoS mechanism, NE40E has good network resource allocation capability, provides service quality solution for the whole enterprise network, and meets the service requirements of customers with different priorities.
Complete OAM Technology
NE40E series routers support rich and comprehensive OAM technology, which can detect network connectivity and perform troubleshooting and localization of the network by sending test messages regularly or manually. The integrated application of point-to-point EFM protocol, end-to-end Ethernet link management and maintenance CFM protocol, and end-to-end Ethernet link performance testing Y.1731 protocol provides users with a complete Ethernet OAM solution.
The NE40E has built-in RFC2544 to enable offline performance monitoring, which is a common traffic test method defined with reference to RFC2544. This method can shield different network scenarios as well as detect differences in message formats, and is a standard set of network performance evaluation methods. Before the deployment of services in the form of self-sending packets to simulate business traffic to complete the network performance testing, without the need for a tester to solve the problem of traffic sending and receiving. Before the network service cutover, you can use this testing method to help customers first assess whether the network meets the pre-designed indicators.
For IP network performance testing, the NE40E supports Huawei's innovative IP FPM (IP Performance Measure) technology. On the one hand, IP FPM can directly measure service messages, truly reflecting the performance of the IP network; on the other hand, IP FPM can also monitor changes in the services carried by the IP network online, accurately reflecting service operation in real time, and enabling fast and accurate fault localization. IP FPM has the advantages of high precision, flexible deployment, and zero impact on services.
