Problem Description
To meet the functional requirements of the current network elements, the current network needs to upgrade the OSN3500 device version from 5.21.12.43 to 5.21.18.50. According to the OptiX_NG-SDH product upgrade guide (TOOLKIT_R4), the N1GSCC main control board was upgraded to the basic BIOS version by using the ToolkitV100R004C01B01q tool. When upgrading the BIOS of N1GSCC main control board using ToolkitV100R004C01B01q tool, the Toolkit tool can activate the basic BIOS version successfully, but the update of the basic BIOS version is unsuccessful, prompting "software version is not up to date", and checking on-site through the command line, the software version is still the original upgraded version, which is indeed not up to date.
Alert message
The basic BIOS upgrade is unsuccessful, and the device has no abnormal alarm; Toolkit tool prompts "software version not updated";
Processing
1、Check the upgrade steps, consistent with the instructions in the upgrade guide, to rule out operational problems;
2、Suspect Toolkit tool problem, the scene using navigator software for basic BIOS upgrade loading, but still can not operate successfully;
3, upgrade the software package problem, the scene by re-applying for new software to reload, the basic BIOS software still can not be updated;
4、After the company's final analysis and positioning, the scene from the main master OFS2 copy the basic BIOS to the main master OFS1 file system, that is:
:sftm-copy-file:bid,"/ofs2/hwx/basebios.hwx",bid,"/ofs1/hwx/basebios.hwx"; # Activate the base BIOS .
5. # Activate the base BIOS, bid for the main control board bit
:cfg-active-basebios:bid
6, and then finally use the tool to activate (i.e.: reset) or manually soft reset the motherboard. However, after this operation, the basebios.hwx file will be left in the motherboard, if the motherboard space is insufficient, you can manually delete the file after the activation is completed.
Root Cause
1. Wrong upgrade step;
2、Toolkit tool problem;
3. Software package problem;
4. Problems with the method of upgrading the base BIOS in this version;
Recommendations and Summary
For OSN3500SSN1GSCC target version R8C02 and later versions, the base BIOS needs to be updated (e.g., the original host version is 5.21.12.43 to 5.21.18.50 ), and there are differences in the steps for upgrading with other previous versions, and special processing is required before activating the base BIOS: the base BIOS needs to be copied from the master OFS2 to the master OFS1 file system. When Toolkit loads the BIOS file, the BIOS file is loaded into the main control board file system OFS2, and when Toolkit activates the BIOS, the default is to activate the file in OFS1, and at this time there is no loaded BIOS file in OFS1, which results in Toolkit reporting that the software version has not been updated. "Software version not updated", please pay attention to this scenario when loading and updating the base BIOS version;
We have asked R&D to change the toolkit R4 upgrade guide, please check the guide when upgrading.
