Huawei OSN3500 SS61COA single board has three functional versions: SS61, SS62, and SSN1. 61COA and N1COA adopt EDFA optical amplifier module, while 62COA adopts Raman optical amplifier module, 61COA supports optical power amplification and preamplification, and N1COA and 62COA support preamplification. 61COA is a box-type external fiber amplifier, which does not occupy a subrack slot and mainly performs the optical signal amplification function. The single-board characteristic code is the code located after the single-board name in the single-board bar code.61 The single-board characteristic code of the COA is used to describe the output optical power of the optical interface.

COA is a box-type fiber amplifier, which is an optical amplification module and its driving circuit and communication circuit, etc., in an aluminum box.COA is an external stand-alone amplifier, which does not occupy the subrack board space and can work independently.61COA, N1COA, and 62COA are configured in the device in the maximum number of 2, 2, and 1, respectively.
Huawei SS61COA and SSN1COA
The SS61COA and SSN1COA are erbium-doped fiber amplifiers configured with only one EDFA optical module, which can be used as power amplifiers, preamplifiers, or line amplifiers.
SS61COA is identical to BPA, BA2 and other optical amplifier veneers in terms of optical characteristics. The main difference is that 61COA and N1COA are external optical amplification units, which do not take up subrack board space, and can be installed directly in ETSI cabinets, which need to be powered separately.
SS61COA and SSN1COA are used in the same way as BA2 and BPA single boards in the optical transmission system. Their specific functions and characteristics are shown in Table 1.

The Huawei SS62COA is a boxed Raman fiber amplifier, which is used at the receiving end of SDH equipment.
The 62COA achieves distributed Raman optical amplification by injecting pump light into the transmission fiber through reverse pumping. Unlike the 61COA, the distributed Raman amplification gain medium is line fiber, which provides better noise performance. Therefore, the use of 62COA can increase the transmission distance and reduce the optical signal-to-noise ratio, thus realizing single-segment ultra-long span transmission.
62COA is a Raman fiber amplification unit, used in the receiving end of the optical transmission system, using the optical fiber's excited Raman scattering effect so that the optical signal can be amplified in the transmission process. 62COA needs to be used with the EDFA optical amplifier, together to complete the 170km distance of more than 170km of optical signal transmission, as shown in Figure 1.
Raman amplifiers use distributed amplification with reverse pumping to amplify the optical signal during transmission. This reverse pumping method makes the phase difference between signal light and pump light larger, Raman pump power fluctuations will be averaged out in the reverse transmission, the noise generated by the pump can be effectively suppressed.
