For ring networks, configure ring multiplex segment protection to protect services at the multiplex segment level.

Prerequisites

Procedure

1. In the main menu, select "Service > SDH Protection Subnet > Create Dual-Fiber Bidirectional Multiplexing Segment Shared Protection Ring", and a prompt dialog box will pop up. Click "OK" to enter the "Create Protection Subnet" page.

   
   

   Description:

   If you want to create a dedicated protection ring for 2-fiber unidirectional multiplexing segment, select "Service > SDH Protection Subnet > Create 2-fiber Unidirectional Multiplexing Segment Dedicated Protection Ring" in the main menu to enter the corresponding creation page.

   
   

2. Enter the name of the protection subnet. You can usually use the default name, for example: two-fiber bi-directional-multiplexed-segment-shared-protection-ring_1.
3. Select the capacity level of the protection subnet. For example: STM-4.
4. Select "Resource Sharing" and "Split by VC4" as required.

   
   

   Description:

   • The essence of "Resource Sharing" is to map the same single board port to multiple protection subnets. When there are multiple protection subnets occupying the same port of the same single board, you must select "Resource Sharing", but for different protection subnets occupying different ports of a single board, you do not need to select "Resource Sharing".
   • "Classify according to VC4" means that different VC4s are assigned to different protection subnets, and its function is to realize virtual optical protection. For example, an STM-16 fiber can be divided into the 1st to 4th VC4s belonging to the shared protection of an STM-4 multiplexing segment, and the 5th to 8th VC4s belonging to the unprotected ring.

   
   

5. Select the nodes included in the protection subnet to be created. Double-click on the selected network element in the main topology to add it to the list of nodes on the left, while is displayed on the network element icon (double-click on the network element again to cancel the setting).
6. Set the attribute of each node to "MSP node".
7. Click "Next" to enter "Link Selection" to set the link physical information and other parameters.

   
   

   Description:

   • If there are multiple cables between two network elements, you can specify the Link Physical Information by selecting it in the drop-down list box.
   • If it is "Split by VC4", you can select the working VC4 time slot and the protection VC4 time slot as needed.

   
   

8. Click "Finish" to send the configuration, the system pops up the "Operation Result" prompt box, click "Close".
9. Right-click on the protection subnet and select "Properties of Protection Subnet" in the pop-up context menu.
10. Click the Protection Subnet Maintenance tab to confirm that the Protocol Controller is up. If the Protocol Controller is not activated, select Protect all network elements of the subnet. Right-click and select Start/Stop Protocol > Startup in the pop-up context menu, and click Yes twice in the prompt box to make all Protocol Controllers in the "Protocol Startup" state.
11. Click the "Protect Subnet Parameters" tab, and set the "Inversion Recovery Waiting Time" and "SD Trigger Condition" as required. Click Apply to distribute the configuration. In the same protection subnet, the settings of "Reverse Recovery Waiting Time" should be the same for each network element.

    The default value of " Optix Metro1000 Reverse Recovery Waiting Time" is 600 seconds.
