OSN3500 SS6COA Appearance
OSN3500 SS6COA Features and Functions
The OSN3500 SS6COA is a cassette type fiber optic amplifier, which means that the optical amplification module, its driver circuit, and communication circuit, etc., are contained in an aluminum box.
The COA is an external stand-alone amplifier that does not occupy subrack board space and can work independently. 61COA, N1COA, and 62COA have a maximum number of 2, 2, and 1 configurations in the device, respectively.
61COA and N1COA Difference
61COA and N1COA are erbium-doped fiber amplifiers configured with only one EDFA optical module, which can be used as power amplifier, preamplifier or line amplifier.
61COA is exactly the same as BPA, BA2 and other optical amplifier veneers in terms of optical characteristics. The main difference is that 61COA and N1COA are external optical amplification units, which do not take up subrack board space, and can be directly installed in ETSI cabinets, which need to be powered separately.
61COA and N1COA are used in the same way as BA2 and BPA single boards in the optical transmission system. Their specific functions and characteristics are shown in Table 1.
| Functions and Characteristics | Function and Characteristics of 61COA and N1COA |
|---|---|
| Optical power amplification function | The 61COA increases the transmitted optical power of the circuit board to increase the effective transmission distance of optical signals. |
| Pre-amplification Function | The 61COA/N1COA provides a pre-amplification function. |
| Laser Auto Shutdown | Supports laser auto shutdown function. |
| Serial communication function | Communicate with GSCC board through RS232 serial port to report COA alarms and performance events to the network manager and receive setting commands from the network manager. |
62COA
The 62COA is a boxed Raman fiber amplifier for use at the receiving end of SDH equipment.
The 62COA achieves distributed Raman optical amplification by injecting pump light into the transmission fiber through reverse pumping. Unlike the 61COA, the distributed Raman amplification gain medium is line fiber, which reduces noise. Therefore, the use of 62COA can increase the transmission distance and improve the optical signal-to-noise ratio, thus realizing single-segment ultra-long span transmission.
62COA for Raman fiber amplification unit, used in the receiving end of the optical transmission system, the use of optical fiber excited Raman scattering effect so that the optical signal can be amplified in the transmission process. 62COA need to be used with the EDFA optical amplifier, together to complete the 170km distance above the transmission of optical signals, as shown in Figure 1.

Raman amplifier using reverse pumping distributed amplification to amplify the optical signal in the transmission process. This reverse pumping method makes the signal light and pump light phase difference is large, Raman pump power fluctuations will be averaged out in the reverse transmission, the noise generated by the pump can be effectively suppressed.
The specific functions and characteristics of the 62COA single board are shown in Table 2.
| Functions and Characteristics | Description |
|---|---|
| Basic Functions | Configured at the receiving end of the SDH system, the transmitter with the EDFA optical amplifier with an output power of 17dBm, together complete the ultra-long distance optical signal transmission of more than 170km. |
| Pre-amplification Function | Provides pre-amplification function. |
| Automatic laser shutdown | Supports the laser auto shut-off function. |
| Serial communication function | Communicate with GSCC board through RS232 serial port to report COA alarms and performance events to the network manager and receive setting commands from the network manager. |
