With DWDM over CWDM technology, DWDM wavelengths can be transmitted using the 1531nm to 1551nm window of CWDM to extend the CWDM system capability.
The DWDM wavelength expansion allocation diagram in a CWDM system is shown in Figure 1-29. With this scheme, a maximum of 26 waves of DWDM wavelengths with 100 GHz spacing can be realized to be transmitted in a CWDM system.
The application of DWDM wavelengths transmitted in the CWDM 1531nm and 1551nm windows is shown in Figure 1-30. the DWDM wavelengths need to be threaded through the MUX/DEMUX of both the DWDM system and the CWDM system, and thus may require the configuration of optical amplifier units.
