OSN1800V Automatic Optical Power Management

OptiX OSN 1800V supports ALS and AGC optical power management, which enables better monitoring and maintenance of equipment operation.

ALS Function

ALS ( Automatic Laser Shutdown ) on the customer side of OTU single board or OTN tributary single board: It means that when a fault occurs on the customer side or WDM side of OTU single board or OTN tributary single board, the laser on the optical port in the corresponding transmitting direction will be shut down; and then resume to emit light when the received signal is normal. Enabling ALS can transmit the fault to the customer side equipment, so that the customer equipment can sense the link status information.

SDH single-board ALS: After the optical fiber between the two docking optical interfaces is disconnected, the local optical interface generates R_LOS alarm, and after the R_LOS lasts for 500ms, the laser on the transmitting optical interface of the local end is automatically turned off, and after the optical fiber is restored to the connection, the optical interface of the opposite end detects the laser pulse sent by the local end, and then the laser of the opposite end is turned on and enters into a continuous light-emitting state. After the local end receives the continuous light, it also turns on the laser. The two docked optical interfaces resume communication and the R_LOS alarm disappears.

The OTU single-board client-side ALS has nothing to do with the Automatic Laser Shutdown mentioned in ITU-T G.664, only the name is the same.

AGC Functions

AGC ( Automatic Gain Control ), the AGC function ensures that the signal gain of existing channels will not be affected in the event of wave loss or optical power fluctuation of single or multiple wavelengths in the WDM system, as well as the addition of additional wavelengths to the system, so as to ensure that the services carried by the WDM network are normal.

AGC realizes gain locking for a single channel through forward and backward feedback control loops. When the optical amplifier is in gain locking mode, the AGC function will be automatically activated when the input optical power changes (no need to be configured on the network management), so that the output optical power of the amplifier changes according to the input optical power, and the gain of the channel always remains unchanged. The AGC function during optical power fluctuation is shown in Figure 1-33.
