Description of the problem
A U-Country E customer upgrades an OSN3500 network element from version R9C03 to version V2R11C00, and the service is interrupted for 20 minutes during the upgrade process. The service resumed after all the boards were upgraded to version R11.
Processing
Before upgrading, configure static Arp on the network element, and then perform the upgrade operation.
Root Cause
Because the network elements were using dynamic ARP before the upgrade, when the master control of this network element has been upgraded to version R11C00 and the single board is still version R9C03, this network element is unable to respond to the ARP aging at the opposite end and sends ARP request messages. At this time, ARP protocol messages could not be interoperated, ARP table entries were aged, and the service was interrupted. The service is resumed until all the boards are upgraded to R11C00 version.
Recommendation and Summary
For packetized services, the master control and the single board version must be the same, otherwise it may cause the whole network element service not to be able to go through. When the master is R9C03 version and the single board is R11C00 version, it will also cause the service not to work.
After configuring static ARP, the packet service will have milliseconds of damage due to the loss of static ARP during the upgrade process.
