Metro3000 can't connect to remote 2500+ devices via ECC

Description of the problem

There are three stations (A and B are 10G devices, C is a 2500+ device), where A and B are interconnected by fiber optic cable, and C is a newly built station, which is interconnected by the first optical port of SQ1 and the second optical port of SLO1 of B. The system is not able to log in to C via ECC during the system interconnection. During the system interconnection, it is not possible to log in to station C via ECC at station A.

Processing

1. Measuring the optical power of C station, the power of the first optical port of SQ1 is normal, and C station has not reported any alarm, which proves that the optical connection is normal.

2、Query the DCC status of SQ1 single board in C station, they are all enabled, and exclude the problem of C station.

3. Log in to check that there is no alarm reversal and no loopback on the SLO1 board at station B.

4. Since station C is a newly built equipment and station B is an existing network equipment, it is estimated that the possibility of ECC being shut down is very high. Use the command :cm-get-fiberport to query the SLO1 board, and find that the ECC (D1~D3) of port 2~8 of SLO1 is not enabled. Moreover, with :cm-get-bdinfo, I can also find that the ECC of this optical port is not enabled, and I can log in normally after issuing :cm-set-fiberport to enable the ECC of this optical port.

Root cause

Because there is no alarm on SLO1 at station B, which is docked to C, and because of the limitation of the overhead bus of 10G equipment, only 1-4 optical ports on the SLO1 board are assigned ECC port numbers, and SLO1 uses the second port, so there is no problem that the last four ports are not able to access the ECC.

Possible reasons are:

1, the optical path is not through but SLO1 reverses the alarm (no recovery).

2, The optical path is on may be a single board failure or the ECC is not turned on.

Solution

Send :cm-set-fiberport to enable the ECC of the optical port, and then you can log in normally.

Suggestion and Summary

In order to avoid ECC storms on the network, the ECC of many unused optical ports of the bureau is turned off. Especially for multi-optical port boards, pay attention to the query when docking. If it is a port that does not pass ECC, such as the last 4 ports of the SLO1 single board, consider whether you need to perform extended ECC.
