OSN3500 SDH Transmission Equipment Veneer Replacement Considerations

When OSN3500 replaces a part, the characteristics of the part used for replacement should be consistent with the original part. If the characteristics (e.g., version) of the veneer are inconsistent, the replacement relationship between versions can be confirmed based on the veneer compatible replacement.The version, name, and feature code of the veneer can be obtained through the bar code on the veneer pull bar or by querying the veneer information report through the network administrator. During the expansion or maintenance of the equipment, it is often necessary to add or replace single boards or other components, and incorrect operation is often prone to cause accidents. This section describes the matters that need to be paid attention to during the operation of component replacement.

The time to perform protection inversion during veneer replacement meets the standard requirements of the telecommunications industry.

The precautions for part replacement are shown in Table 1.

Sequence of operation Precautions
Before Replacement
  • Prepare the veneer and operating tools.
  • Check whether the label of the lead-in fiber cable of the single board is complete or not, if there is no label, you need to supplement it.
  • Set the dip switches and jumpers correctly.
  • Check the related alarms and performance events through the network management.
  • If there is a backup board, confirm that the service has been inverted to the backup board.
During Replacement
  • Wear anti-static wrist or anti-static gloves.
  • Use a fiber puller to pull out the fiber and put a dust cap on the pulled fiber connector.
  • The cable should be pulled out slowly by holding the connector in your hand and should not be pulled by the cable.
  • Use a fiber puller to pull out the optical fiber and put a dust cap on the pulled out fiber connector.
  • When pulling out the cable, hold the connector with your hand and pull it out slowly without pulling the cable.
  • Correctly unplug the veneer, if the veneer's puller strip has fiber cables leading out, it should be removed first, and then re-plugged after the veneer is replaced.
  • Record the settings of jumpers and dip switches on the veneer.
  • Prevent short-circuiting of the veneer.
  • Avoid laser damage to eyes.
After Replacement
  • Verify that the fiber cable is connected correctly.
  • Check the blinking status of the single board indicator to confirm that the single board is working properly.
  • Query the relevant alarms and performance events through the network management to confirm that there are no abnormal alarms. For the single board without alarm reporting function, it is necessary to check the business operation status of the equipment connected to it.
  • For the functional unit with backup, check whether the reversal is normal.
  • Put the replaced single board into the shielding bag, and stick the maintenance label on the shielding bag, labeling the name of the single board and the failure phenomenon.
