OSN3500 line board misconnections cause SDH equipment to report APS_INDI alarms

When OSN3500 browses alarms in the network management, select the alarm, and the related parameters of the alarm will be displayed in the "Alarm Details". The format of alarm parameters is "Alarm Parameters (hexadecimal): Parameter 1 Parameter 2...Parameter n". Refer to the following table for the meaning of each parameter.This alarm means that a fiber break has occurred. This alarm means that an event such as fiber break or terminal node failure has occurred, triggering a multiplexing segment inversion. After this alarm is generated, for two-fiber ring multiplexing segments and linear multiplexing segments, if another fiber break or other failure occurs, it will cause service interruption. The service is interrupted during the protection inversion period (≤50ms). The service is resumed after the normal completion of the reversal. The alarm is reported abnormally due to the line connection error when the SDH network is looped. Therefore, special attention should be paid to the connection between network elements when the equipment is networked.

Phenomenon Description

An SDH network is a 4 x VC-4 MSP ring as shown in Figure 1.

Site 1 is the center site, and other site services converge at Site 1. The clock source at site 1 is an external clock, and the other sites track the westbound line clock. Site 2 and site 3 between the fiber break, but the service is not interrupted. At the same time, site 1, 3, 4, 5, 6 have pointer adjustment performance, site 1, 3, 5, 6 are reported APS_INDI alarm, site 4 has no alarm.

Cause Analysis

Under normal circumstances, if sites 2 and 3 have intermittent fiber, sites 3, 4, 5, and 6 report APS_INDI alarms. Site 4 does not report a PS alarm, and the service is normal, which indicates that the westbound circuit board at site 4 can receive normal service from site 1. Therefore, the fiber connection at site 4 may be incorrect. That is, the westbound line at site 4 is connected to the westbound line at site 5, and the eastbound line at site 4 is connected to the eastbound line at site 3.

Procedure

  1. Check the fiber optic connection at site 4 and find that the connection is incorrect. After the correct connection, site 4 reports the APS_INDI alarm.
