OSN3500 motherboard failure causes SSN4GSCC to report HARD BAD

The OSN3500 motherboard failure caused the main control board to operate abnormally and continuously report HARD_BAD alarms, and the failure was ruled out by replacing the subrack.

Phenomenon Description

The main control board has been reporting HARD_BAD alarm for a long time.

Cause analysis

Analyzing the HARD_BAD alarm parameter, when parameter 5 is 0x04, it shows that the Ethernet communication port between the single boards has failed. From this, analyze the following three possible causes:

  1. The main control board is faulty.
  2. Auxiliary interface board failure.
  3. Motherboard failure.

Operation Procedure

  1. Pull out the backup master board and keep only the master board, the HARD_BAD alarm does not disappear. Then locate the failure of the main master board, the auxiliary interface board, or one of slot 17.
  2. If the HARD_BAD alarm still does not disappear after replacing the master control board in slot 17, the possibility of a faulty master control board is ruled out.
  3. Insert the main control board into slot 18 of the backup main control board and the backup main control board into slot 17 of the main control board. After switching the slots, slot 17 still reports the HARD_BAD alarm. Then locate one of the failures of the standby master board, the auxiliary interface board, or slot 17.
  4. After switching slots, the backup master board is in slot 17. If the HARD_BAD alarm still does not go away after replacing the backup master board in slot 17, rule out the possibility that the backup master board has failed.
  5. After replacing the auxiliary interface board, the HARD_BAD alarm still does not disappear, so the possibility of auxiliary interface board failure is ruled out, and the fault is localized in slot 17.
  6. Observe that the motherboard is not inverted, then exclude the possibility of motherboard failure caused by motherboard inverted pin.
  7. Replace the subrack and the HARD_BAD alarm disappears.
