The main difference between EVPLAN service and EPLAN service is that multiple users need to share the bandwidth. Therefore, it is necessary to use the VLAN ID or other mechanisms to distinguish the data of different users. If you need to provide different quality of service for different users, you need to use the corresponding QoS mechanism.

Configuring EVPLAN services requires the use of an Ethernet switching board. See Table 1 for the support of the Ethernet switching veneer for EVPLAN services.

Configure the external port of the Ethernet board

Required

When a network element accesses Ethernet services through the external port of the Ethernet single board, it is necessary to configure various attributes of the external port in order to cooperate with the data communication equipment on the customer side to realize normal access to Ethernet services.

Configuring the internal ports of the Ethernet single board

Required

When a network element transmits Ethernet services to the SDH side through the internal port (i.e., VCTRUNK) of the Ethernet board, various attributes of the VCTRUNK port need to be configured in order to cooperate with the Ethernet single board on the opposite side of the network element to realize the transmission of Ethernet services in the SDH network.

Creating Ethernet LAN Services

Required

When using an Ethernet switchboard to carry LAN services, you need to create a bridge and set various attributes of the bridge and the ports to which the bridge is connected.

Create VLAN filter table

Required

If the bridge type created for Ethernet LAN service is IEEE 802.1q or IEEE 802.1ad, you need to create a VLAN filter table for the bridge if you need to use VLANs to segregate user data.

Modify the Hub/Spoke attributes of the bridge's hooked ports

Optional.

In the Ethernet LAN service, if you do not want multiple access nodes other than the aggregation node to communicate with each other, you can modify the Hub/Spoke attribute between the access nodes from the default Hub to Spoke.

Create SDH Service

Required.

In order to enable Ethernet services to be transmitted through the specified time slots on the transmission line, a cross-connection between the VCTRUNK-bound channel and the corresponding time slot on the line board needs to be created.

Configure Layer 2 switching characteristics.

  • Create MAC address table entries
  • Modify the MAC address aging time
  • Configure the STP/RSTP protocol
  • Configure IGMP Snooping
  • Create VLAN unicast table entries to manually specify the forwarding ports for MAC frames, and disable table entries to block the forwarding of certain MAC frames. None of these manually created MAC table entries are affected by the aging time.
  • The default aging time for dynamic MAC address table entries on Ethernet switching boards is 5 minutes, and the aging time can be modified according to actual needs.
  • To prevent possible loops in the network topology of Ethernet services, STP or RTSP protocols need to be enabled, thus avoiding the proliferation and infinite loops of messages in the looped network.
  • When a multicast router exists in the network, the IEEE 802.1q or IEEE 802.1ad bridge can enable the IGMP Snooping protocol to realize the multicast function with the router.

Configuring QoS

Optional

Multiple users need to share the bandwidth, and if you need to provide different quality of service to different users, you need to adopt the corresponding QoS mechanism.

Test Ethernet service channel

Required

After completing the Ethernet service creation, you need to verify the connectivity of the Ethernet service.

Set performance monitoring parameters for network elements

Required

Start the performance monitoring of the specified network element to obtain the detailed performance record of the network element during operation, which is convenient for the maintenance personnel to monitor and analyze the operation status of the network element.

11 Backup network element database to the main control board

Required

Ensure that the main control board of the network element can automatically resume operation after losing data or powering down the device by backing up the network element database operation.
