Description of the problem
Huawei OSN1500 device network elements encountered failure to activate the standby master when upgrading from version V1R7 to V1R8SPC200. Using the U2000V1R5 integrated DC tool, the DC reports an error: Failed to active the card...
Processing
First through the DC tool log (located in the tkdll_log folder, xx-xxnemsg_20130403_024637.log log file. xx-xx is the network element NEID)
Check the specific failure reason and find the following error code:
[05:49:18.810447 51-60] send.
:cfg-reset-board:83,soft
[05:49:18.869820 51-60] recv.
NSERR_CFG_NEED_TO_BACKUP [05:49:18 869820 51-60] recv: failed! cmd:0x8106 error:0x9aab NSERR_CFG_NEED_TO_BACKUP
This indicates that the network element was doing a master board database backup operation at that time. Since the master board is prohibited from being reset during this operation. This is because a reset will result in incomplete data on the master board after reboot. There are many service configuration loss problems in the current network caused by abnormal reset of the master control.
Root Cause
Master is synchronizing master and backup causing activation failure
Solution
Since the software loading step is normal, the current master board already has the new software, just not activated. (In fact, activation of other boards besides the main master can be equated to a reset board operation.)
So check the backup status of the master control and continue the activation operation of the upgrade task after the backup status is OK.
The upgrade is completed normally.
Recommendations and Summary
There are several cases of this problem in the same place. Some of them are due to the fact that before upgrading, the backup status of the master database was not checked as required by the upgrade guide, and some of them are due to the abnormality of the master board itself, and the backup status has been kept in the unfinished state (this situation needs to be solved by changing the board).
DC tool error message only tells the error in which step, if you want to know the details of the error message returned by the network elements need to check the DC log. This can be more in-depth understanding of the root cause of the problem.
