Description of the problem

When a customer configures a tributary board on an OSN 3500 expansion subrack to be the system clock source, the network management reports an error with the error code 38709, which corresponds to the message "Invalid clock source".

Process

1, through this error code value range, we can know that this error is returned by the master control, we can check the master control code to deal with it.

Troubleshooting master control code, found that the code in the clock source verification, the expansion of the sub-shelf slot board will return an error. That is, the master control board restricts the slots on the expansion subrack.

2、Hardware design limitations

Examining the hardware design differences between the XCE (cross-silo board on the expansion subrack) and the XCS board (cross-silo board on the master subrack), it is found that the XCE does not have a system clock processing module. That is, XCE can not extract the clock from any business veneer, but can only get the clock from the main subrack through the expansion subrack cable, and provide the clock to the business veneer on the expansion subrack.

Root Cause

Through the above "process", we know the direct cause (software limitation) and background (hardware design limitation) of this error, and it is normal for this error code to appear.
