OSN3500 ATM is a mode of transmission in which information is organized into credits, and because the individual credits containing information from a particular user do not need to appear periodically, this mode of transmission is asynchronous. ATM is a connection-oriented technology, and the logical connection of ATM is known as a Virtual Connection (VC). The virtual connection is the basic switching unit in an ATM network, and many operations in ATM (such as resource allocation, service volume control, quality of service assurance, etc.) are carried out on the basis of the virtual connection.When ATM terminals communicate, a virtual connection must first be established between the terminals, and the user's data credentials will be transmitted along this connection. This connection-oriented approach facilitates high-speed processing of the credits by the switching nodes. If the connectionless approach is used, the switching node must complete some complex functions, such as destination address routing, etc., and these overheads will undoubtedly affect the forwarding speed. In the connection-oriented approach in ATM, each virtual connection on a link is identified by a unique identifier, recorded in the header of the signal element. The switching node simply recognizes the virtual connection identifier in the credential header for fast credential forwarding.

Phenomenon Description
After creating two connections, the connections cannot join the protection group.
Cause Analysis
For 1+1 protection type:
If it is source-side protection, the working connection and the protection connection must have the same host and different sources.
If it is a host-side protection, the working connection and the protection connection must have the same source and different hosts.
For source + host protection, the working connection and the protection connection must have different hosts and different sources.
For 1:1 protection, the working and protection connections must be different hosts and different sources.
Procedure
Determine the source-host relationship of the protection group, change the connection and rejoin the protection group.
