OSN3500 network element ID and IP information changes cause network elements to go offline after master/standby reversal

After OSN3500 logs into the network element through U2000, it needs to modify the network element ID according to the planning of the actual network element ID.This task describes how to set the network element ID through U2000 to ensure that the actual network element ID of the device is consistent with the planning.

Possible Causes

  • Cause 1: The network element user password is set incorrectly.
  • Cause 2: Hardware failure.
  • Cause 3: Main control board failure.
  • Cause 4: Network element IP/ID configuration error.
  • Cause 5: Fiber failure.
  • Cause 6: Optical port DCC shutdown leads to de-pipe.
  • Cause 7: Host software failure.
  • Cause 8: The network size is too large, and the scale of ECC communication between network elements exceeds the limit of the processing capacity of the network elements.
  • Cause 9: D1-D3 bytes of the DCC channel are deleted.


You need to ensure that the IDs and IPs of the master and backup masters are the same before performing the upgrade and downgrade operations so that the network elements are not decontrolled after the upgrade and downgrade.

Phenomenon Description

Software upgrade of OSN equipment, network element ID 315, check before the upgrade of the primary and backup master batch backup status is normal, after the completion of the upgrade hard reset the backup master board (logical slot 83), the backup master board works normally, hard reset the main master board (logical slot 82) for forced reversal, after the reversal of the network element appeared to be out of the pipe, the business is normal, the site observes that the backup master board ACTC light is on for a long time.

Cause analysis

The network element ID and IP of the standby master control board have changed, and the network element ID is inconsistent with that of the network management.

Operation steps

  1. Observe on site that the ACTC lamp of the standby master control board is on, indicating that the master control master and standby reversal is successful and has been reversed to the standby master control board (83).
  2. Unplug the current main control board (83) and reverse to the original main control board (82), and the communication with the network management returns to normal.
  3. Hard reset the primary master control board (82) again for forced reversal, and the network element is again offline. Log in to neighboring network element 316 and query the ECC routing, but the network element with ID 315 is not found.
  4. Log in to the "Element Manager" of 316, and select the "DCC Rate Configuration" tab in "Communication > DCC Management". Click Query to query the communication status of the 5-slot SDH board directly connected to network element 315.
  5. In "Communication > Network Element ECC Link Management", click Query to query the physical layer link data. You find that the network element ID directly connected to slot 5 of the optical board is 78.
  6. Log in to the 78 network element and find that the network element is exactly the 315 network element. Query the IP address of the network element as 3.1.4.78 instead of the default 129.9.x.x. Then change the network element ID to 3.1.4.78.
  7. Subsequently, the network element ID was changed to 315, and the IP address was changed to 129.9.x.x. The network element was automatically reset, and communication with the network management resumed normal after normal operation, and the fault was eliminated.
