optix metro1000alarm management

Describes the process of reporting alarms.

The alarm reporting process is as follows:

  • The single board detects the alarm and reports it to the host software.
  • The host software reports the alarm to the T2000 Server.
  • Users query the alarm from the T2000 Server through the T2000 Client.

In this process, the alarm needs to be processed through three layers before it is finally saved by T2000, which are:

  • Alarm Masking
  • Alarm automatic reporting
  • Alarm Filtering

In addition to the above processing, alarm suppression and alarm reversal also affect the alarm reporting.

Alarm Masking

For a network element or a single board of a network element, you can set the blocking status of all alarms. If an alarm is set to mask status, the corresponding network element or single board will no longer monitor the alarm.

Automatic Alarm Reporting

If you set up automatic alarm reporting on a network element, alarms generated on the device side will be reported to the network administrator immediately. The alarm board will be popped up on the network administrator, and the user can view the alarm information in the board without actively querying. Unnecessary alarms can be set not to be automatically reported to minimize the impact of a large number of alarm messages on the performance of the network management.

Alarm Filtering

Alarm filtering is realized on the network management and does not affect the alarms on the network element side. Reported alarms are received or discarded according to the configuration of alarm filtering. Alarm filtering is set for a particular network element. If the state of alarm filtering is set to "Enable", the alarm is discarded by the network administrator and is not recorded in the network administrator database; if the state is set to "Disable", the alarm is received and recorded in the alarm database of the network administrator.

Alarm Suppression

In the network, root cause alarms triggered directly by abnormal events or faults often generate some low-level alarms, which interfere with the user's localization and processing of alarms. By pre-setting alarm correlation rules, non-root alarms can be blocked, reducing the number of alarms reported by hosts to the network management, making it easier for users to quickly locate and troubleshoot.

Alarm Reversal

For ports that have not been opened for service, alarm inversion is used to avoid generating related alarm messages, thus avoiding alarm interference. Through this function, the alarm state of the port is set to be opposite to the actual state, i.e., no alarm is reported when there is an actual alarm, and an alarm is reported when there is no actual alarm.

There are three modes of alarm reversal: no reversal, automatic recovery, and manual recovery.

  • Non-reversal mode

This is the alarm normal monitoring state and is the default value. In this mode, you cannot set the alarm reversal of the port.

  • Auto Recovery Mode

In this mode, alarm reversal can be set only for the port with alarm. After the setting is enabled, the port enters the inversion mode and the port does not report the alarm. If the current alarm ends, it automatically exits the inversion mode, and the alarm status reported by the port returns to the same as the actual alarm status.

  • Manual Recovery Mode
In this mode, you can set alarm reversal for a port regardless of whether the port currently has an alarm or not.
    • After setting the enable to enter the inversion mode, the alarm state reported by the port is opposite to the actual alarm state.
    • After setting disable, the port returns to non-reverse mode, and the alarm status reported by the port is the same as the actual alarm status.

The following issues need to be noted for setting alarm inversion:

  • The single-board alarm status remains unchanged (including the alarm lamp). indicating the actual operating status of the device.
  • Alarm reversal is accomplished on the host of the network element. the data of the host and the network management remain the same. both of which are the alarm state after alarm reversal.
